Ira Deshmukh and Kabir Malhotra are getting married

12–14 February 2027 · Jag Niwas Bagh, Udaipur

until the pheras, 13 February at 7:00 pm IST

The wedding ceremony begins on 13 February 2027 at 7:00 pm India time.

How we met

The short version, for the relatives who keep asking.

  1. 2019

    Seat 42, Deccan Queen

    July, Pune to Mumbai

Ira had booked the window seat on the 7:15 from Pune. Kabir was already in it, with a cutting chai and no idea he was in the wrong coach. He moved, then bought her a vada pav at Lonavala to apologise.

By Karjat we were arguing about whether Mumbai or Delhi has the better monsoon. We still haven't agreed.

  2. 2020–24

    Sundays at eleven

    Mumbai and Delhi

Kabir went back to Delhi for work and Ira stayed in Mumbai to build her architecture practice. For four years we kept one call every Sunday at eleven: one of us cooked while the other read out the recipe.

We got through his nani's rajma, her aaji's sabudana khichdi and one sourdough loaf that didn't work.

  3. 2025

    The steps at Fateh Sagar

    November, Udaipur

Ira was in Udaipur sketching old havelis for a restoration project. Kabir flew in for the weekend, woke her at 5:30 to see the lake, and proposed on the ghat steps with a boatman waiting nearby.

She said yes before he finished the question. So we're getting married in Udaipur.

Our wedding invitation laid flat with marigold petals, a wax seal and a silk ribbon

    विवाह

    Wedding

Kabir's baraat leaves the main gate at 5:30 pm, so come early if you want to dance with it. The pheras begin at seven, with dinner on the lawns after.

Dress code: traditional Indian formal in jewel tones. Please leave red to the bride.

  5. Sunday, 14 February

    7:30 pm

    The lake terrace

    स्वागत समारोह

    Reception

A quieter last evening: dinner on the terrace, a few short speeches and the lake lit up once more before everyone flies home.

Dress code: black tie or Indian formal. It gets cold by the water after dark, so bring a shawl.

Questions

For anything else, ask Tanvi, Kabir's cousin. She's running the weekend and will be at the help desk in the lobby from 11 February.

Yes, very much. There's a supervised kids' room with sitters and films during the Sangeet and the Wedding, from 7 pm, so parents can stay on the dance floor.

Mid-February in Udaipur is warm and dry in the day, around 27°C, and can drop to 11°C after dark. Bring a shawl or a light jacket for the evenings by the lake.

We'd love you to put phones away for that one hour. Our photographers will share everything. At every other event, take as many as you like and tag them #IraKabirForever.

Please don't carry anything heavy on a flight for us. If you'd still like to give something, there will be a box for cards at the Reception.

All event spaces are on one level, with ramps down to the lakeside mandap. If you'd like a buggy from the gate, or a seat near the front for the pheras, mention it in your RSVP note.

Of course. Tick only the events you can come to. We'd much rather plan for the right number of people than guess.
